It’s hard to believe we have made it to March of 2022. I have no idea where the first two months went, but I know they were here because they left two fresh BABY BABY tracks for us to jam to. Now that we have hit the first Friday of March, we have yet another single drop from the local foursome titled “Girl Bye.” Yet again, the band has crafted another banger as part of their new album U GOOD? that will be fully released this fall.
Unlike their last single, which took a more tongue-in-cheek approach, “Girl Bye” is a straight-up breakup song. The track kicks off with an infectious chorus — “You don’t deliver it for me / You don’t deliver it for me / Girl, Bye“ — that feels eloquent in its honest simplicity. I might just use this song for my next break-up instead of stumbling through my own words or the cringy option of ghosting. The lyrics to this single, as well as the other ones dropped this year, highlight the impressive songwriting that BABY BABY has carried throughout their career. Blending perfectly with their punk-fueled instrumentals, the band continues to prove how intentional they are in their work. Each new single they have been releasing even has custom artwork coupled with still shots captured by photographer Grace Kelly.

It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been able to see them perform, so watching even a snippet of them jamming out is a treat. Their energy is undeniably contagious, even through a screen. I am counting the days until I can finally see them again in the flesh as every new song ends up on repeat in my Spotify. Until then, we can only tune in each month for a new single drop.
