“David Norbery (Nomen Novum, Sisterwife) has lon “David Norbery (Nomen Novum, Sisterwife) has long had a punishing relationship with perfection. As a child, well before he knew how to play an instrument, Norbery would write and record, filling cassettes with improvised songs. He would design covers and write liner notes, only to hide the music from the world. As he grew older and developed his talent, the aim towards perfectionism only worsened. As a result, troves of promising songs have been left abandoned—entire albums worth of material discarded and shelved away.

…

“In an effort to break the cycle, many of Nobery’s most recent recordings are exercises in letting go enforced by strict limitations. This includes his latest single as Night Heron, the pulsing, beautifully elegiac ‘You’ll Never Be Satisfied.’

“Originally intended as a jab at his dad, the title reflects both an acknowledgment and acceptance of his perfectionist disorder. Built around his 1955 Wurlitzer electric piano, the 11-minute track was largely improvised and recorded mostly live. It’s a remarkable piece—gorgeously haunting, mediative, and grand, like a distant sunrise peeking through a rolling fog. In many ways it feels far removed from the fizzing atmospheres and icy electronica that populated Night Heron’s 2021 debut, ‘Careworn.’ But if there is a point of convergence, it’s in Norbery’s ability to inject catharsis within otherwise ambiguous soundscapes.” - @latestdisgrace

“Artists are always searching for a breakthrough “Artists are always searching for a breakthrough moment. That right turn of phrase. The first glimmer of a sticky melody. A chord progression that lands just so. The hope is that you’ll tap into a wellspring of creative ideas, but, really, the tiniest thread will do. Anything that can be latched onto, tugged at, followed into the wilderness like a breadcrumb trail. All you need is a flicker of inspiration; talent and persistence can take care of the rest.

“Consider ‘Haunted,’ the new single from singer-songwriter Alex Lotito. The languid and plaintive track provided the spark for his new EP, setting the thematic tone for the record. Recorded at Lotito’s home studio with the help of co-producer and lead guitarist Jospeh Faul, the song also highlights the collaborative nature of the sessions.

“‘This was the first song we recorded for the current EP and it helped me to start finding a sonic space for the current project,’Lotito says. ‘l initially started writing the song as part of a 3-week poetry and songwriting class I was teaching at the High School I used to work at. It was fun working with Joseph to layer electric guitar parts and later Paul Stevens (drums) and Alex Tramble (bass) to transform this song from just acoustic guitar to a full band sound.’” - @latestdisgrace

“The Difference Machine are unloading the clip. “The Difference Machine are unloading the clip. Their words, not mine. New single ‘Simulation Wig’ is reportedly straight from the vaults, so there’s no telling how many more Molotovs are about to get lobbed at us. For my part, I’m anticipating a new record on the horizon, but I’ve been wrong before. So, let’s forgo speculation because right now we’ve got some heat on our hands. Make no mistake, this track may move at a hazy, slurred-out pace, but it’s a slow burn that grows in intensity with each incendiary bar.” - @latestdisgrace

“Amy Godwin’s lyrics are brazen and catchy rum “Amy Godwin’s lyrics are brazen and catchy ruminations on life, death, and the importance of how we spend the time between. It’s introspective, yeah, but it’s also damn groovy. Along with Drew Fitchette and Paul Stevens, Bizner’s songs exist in a Kodachrome realm, suspicious of the suburbs but hemmed in by the constant thrum of anxiety. Take ‘Not the Same,’ which aches with the world-weariness of ‘More Adventurous’-era Jenny Lewis: ‘Drinking on red wine, talking with sad eyes / moving to a home you’d never choose / raising a family with the war on the TV / trying to outlive what’s taken you.’ It could sound so despairing and yet Fichette’s lead guitar urges the song to keep moving. It feels a lot like life, in that it never slows down enough to really grieve. Instead, the incessant call of obligation drags you forward.” - @ethanfogus

“When I think of the idea of ‘sabotage,’ I p “When I think of the idea of ‘sabotage,’ I primarily think of it in romanticized, guerrilla-style terms. In other words, an assault on critical systems—military targets, key infrastructure, communication networks—meant to cripple some nefarious enemy. You know, rebel shit. But, in truth, the concept is far more extensive, covering a far-flung nexus of human actions and motivations. So yeah, sometimes it means thwarting your oppressors in a life-or-death struggle for liberation. Other times, though, it’s merely a tactic for petty revenge or self-annihilation. Justice, after all, is in the eye of the beholder.

“What to make, then, of the new single and video from Atlanta via Puerto Rico punks LADRONES? With its gritty, tension-inducing rumble and bulldozer riffs, ‘Sabotaje’ (Spanish for ‘Sabotage,’ duh) immerses the listener in an atmosphere of unease. Vocalist Valeria Sánchez embraces the anxiety, punctuating the band’s rowdy din with a seething assault on the perils of the ego. Directed by Kenneth Trujillo and produced by Kojak Films, the video exacerbates the dread by flooding the viewer with scenes of kidnapping, violence, and torture.
