To say the Callous Daoboys are back with a vengeance is a hell of an understatement. The Atlanta mathcore collective has always been about bruising anti-anthems and adventurous arrangements, but even by their own exacting standards, new single “Fake Dinosaur Bones” is a fiendishly frantic tour-de-force. Everything about the track—from its endless barrage of scorched-earth riffs and brutal breakdowns, to Carson Pace’s biting, fever-pitch vocals—feels imbued with a world-devouring sense of purpose, like the stakes surrounding the band have skyrocketed and the only way forward is to decimate anything standing in their way.

Still have your doubts? Watch the video below directed by Zak and Jon Washburn. And try not to break anything or throw out your back, will ya?

Indeed, as the first taste of the group’s upcoming LP Die on Mars, the single sets up some majorly heady expectations. The 12-song effort was produced, recorded, and mixed by Corey Bautista at Corey Bautista Audio (Pace also gets a nod as the album’s co-producer), and if the rest of the record can match the single’s mix of white-knuckle ferocity and explosive yet polished production, we could be staring at a game-changer for the Callous Daoboys. To make things even more tantalizing, the record features guest performances from Jason Sherman (Dead Empires) and Sarah Rose (Sarah and the Safe Word), among others.

If you’re hoping for an imminent release date, however, I’m afraid you’re out of luck. Sadly, we’ll have to wait until June 21 to hear what other dark magic the band has up their collective sleeves. In the meantime, check out the album’s cover art and tracklist below and keep mashing repeat on “Fake Dinosaur Bones.”
