On “Reckless” and “Tell Me What I Want to Hear,” two new offerings from Sydney Eloise & the Palms, the troupe explore the boundaries of being simplistic while also creating their own dream pop atmosphere.

The band’s upcoming debut album, Faces, was produced by Chandler Galloway and Damon Moon (both of who play keys and guitar in the band) and was recorded at the Cottage over the course of a year with many local stalwarts lending a hand (including members of Grand Vapids, Spirits and the Melchizedek Children and Book Club).

“Reckless” boasts a gorgeous, slow groove chorus that will stick with you long after you listen, whereas “Tell Me What I Want to Hear” shows off the range this group possesses—lazy, calculated verses that compliment the dreamy, Motown-era doo-wop chorus that follows. On both tracks, Sydney Eloise’s voice is reminiscent of Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino fronting Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground, her sugary sweet vocals blanketed by the Palms’ well-layered melodies and wistful rhythms.

You can listen to “Reckless” now over at CMJ, while “Tell Me What I Want to Hear” can be streamed via PopMatters.

Faces will see the light of day Sept. 22 via The Cottage Recording Company and Bear Kids Recordings. Pre-orders are available here.
