Atlanta trio Lanes have displayed a knack for snappy pop hooks in the past and their latest single “Bring the Heat” finds them unleashing another catchy contemporary R&B and soft rock hybrid. Frontman Tim Romero helps keep the vibe calm and smooth with warm vocals that exude confidence without coming off as cloying—no small feat considering the antiseptic nature of much of today’s pop landscape. It helps considerably that the band opt for a spacious, multi-layered mix that avoids the need for immaculate perfection; instead, Lanes couch their pristine brightness in crisp yet murky grooves. The end result still sounds plenty polished, but without losing the rush of pumping blood that makes the song sound vital.
