Rainbow Rising was the album made me reassess my appreciation of metal in high school, so any song that references Ritchie Blackmore is going to get a bump from me, but even more so, this track totally rips. Dead Now is comprised of former members of Day Old Man, Torche, Riddle of Steel, and Tilts, but the trio’s oozing, igneous riffs and feel-good swagger channel the energy of classic Fu Manchu. Everything on the cut, from the oblique guitar solo to the punishing undertow of the bass feels slightly bizarre and it’s all capped off with some seriously juicy drum fills.

“Ritchie Blackmourning” is the first single from Dead Now’s self-titled debut, out Sept. 7 via Brutal Panda Records. Pre-orders are available here.
