It’s been nearly two weeks since the new single from BOREGARD. popped up online, and if you haven’t yet given it a listen, you probably don’t want to sleep on it any longer. From an aesthetic standpoint, “Breakfast” isn’t your typical Atlanta trap-pop banger, as it demands more from the listener than simply nodding along to a slick beat and a sharp hook. Humor and clever wordplay have become the rapper’s calling card, and here he hands out every diss and burn with a side of raunchy wit.

Equally impressive, however, is just how nimble BOREGARD.’s flow has become, especially as you listen to him deftly twist and spin his words around Ethan Lamb’s off-kilter beat. The track’s crisp percussion and deep bass stabs don’t allow much room for missteps, but rather than treading with caution, he attacks each line a vigor bordering on maniacal. My only complaint? The lack of a second verse feels a bit like a letdown, but, hey, when it comes to BOREGARD., I’ll take what I can get.
