The sardonic new single and video from Lesibu Grand follows America’s grand thesis to its tragic conclusion. America purports to be many things: A shining beacon of hope. A melting pot. A land of opportunity. A refuge for the tired and poor. But given our collective apathy and our inability to confront the sins of our past and present, what’s clear is that America isn’t all that great. In fact, when pressed against the backdrop of the country’s hallowed promises, it’s safe to say we fucking suck. On “WFS,” vocalist Tyler-Simone Molton catalogs our failures, shortcomings, and general shittiness with all the winning charisma of a prime Kathleen Hanna.

In the video, Molton poses as a school teacher and cheerleader for doomerhood, complete with thick, bleeding rivulets of black mascara. She sings gleefully about mass shootings, police brutality, food and housing insecurity, healthcare, voter suppression, and income inequality. You know, the hallmarks of any great democracy. While the visuals stick with you, the song’s driving synth-punk backbeat will have you nodding your head as you weep silently to yourself. Truth is a chainsaw, and Lesibu Grand wield it with madcap enthusiasm on “WFS.”

Watch/listen above. And for fuck’s sake, remember to vote.
