Cloak’s ominous songwriting continues to grow stronger with their new single “Tempter’s Call.” The haunting track is one of the band’s most thematic efforts, relying on occult imagery and gothy atmosphere as much as their characteristic black metal grooves. Although it’s not quite as raw as some of the material from their first LP To Venomous Depths, the track still engages the listener with the same visceral presence and earthy chaos premiered on their 2016 demo. I’m a sucker for acoustic outros, and this one turns the spooky factor up to 11 without feeling tacked on or inconsequential.

“Tempter’s Call” is the lead single from Cloak’s forthcoming LP, The Burning Dawn, out Oct. 25 via Season of Mist. Pre-orders are available here.
