For nearly half a decade, Athens duo Cicada Rhythm have been hypnotizing audiences throughout the Southeast with their distinct mix of American roots, jazz and blues. The pair’s enthusiasm is effortlessly authentic—live or on record and is a big part of what makes their music so lively.

The Georgia natives are releasing their self-titled debut album on Oct. 30 via Normaltown Records. The record’s lead single, “In the Garden,” is an unassuming roots tune that emphasizes the group’s ability to craft an enthralling experience for listeners from all types of backgrounds. Subtle layers of a variety of percussive instruments over the steady thump of a kick drum make this dance-worthy track unforgivingly fun and catchy. Upright bassist Andrea DeMarcus’ walking lines slide loosely alongside her counterpart David Kirslis’ unyielding open chords. The song is brief, but it is a great introduction to such a distinguished duo.
