Sometimes I judge tracks by the ease with which they pour out of my speakers. While I’m never averse to complexity and music that forces you to earn its loyalty, there’s something to be said for smoothness and tracks that land light on the ears. Case in point is this new banger from [A]RT, a group I know next to nothing about. From the looks of it, they are a loose collective of rappers and producers of which Flip!, Shvne, and Uncle Richy appear to be the most active members. All three appear on “Full Moon,” along with a fourth artist that goes by (T)ans.
Produced by Jimmy Newtron, the track plays in similar space as ATL alt-rap trio Goldyard, combining a spring-loaded trap beat with elastic rhymes that forgo the narcotic haze popularized by the likes of Future, Young Thug, Migos, and others, in favor of a more direct approach. Subject-wise the group unfortunately embrace the typical rap tropes (molly-downing, sex talk, chest-pounding ego stroking) that plague the genre, but their overall exuberance helps keep an electrified current of sprightly energy moving throughout the track. Add in the contagious hook that is the track’s chorus and you have a promising introduction to a group looking to make its presence known in the scene. Listen below.
