My gut feeling is that this list is going to grow quickly. The local scene is so fertile right now and there are so many artists wrapping up new projects that I wouldn’t be surprised if we had double the amount of records listed here before March is out. But look down this list, even if this is all the new music we were to get for the next four weeks, it would still be a damn spectacular month.
One of the narratives going into 2016 was the insane amount of new music due out from major players in the Atlanta and Athens hardcore punk/noise rock/sludge metal underbelly, and later this month we’ll get our hands on the first of those much anticipated efforts when O’Brother release their third studio LP, Endless Light. And what’s wild is that same week brings us an eleven-song ripper from Eureka California, a new record from rising punk and indie rock duo Femignome, and another LP from pop contortionist Nomen Novum. So, yeah, you might want to pencil in the week of March 25 as a critical one for the local scene.
Elsewhere, we’ve got promising debuts from Caesium Mine and Newark Wilder to look forward to, not to mention new releases from scene vets like Pony League and Hello Ocho, although the latter has yet to be confirmed. All of this is just to say that, much like February, March is going to be very busy … and incredibly awesome.
