With their first full length set to drop on Dec. 18, MTN ISL look poised to enter 2016 with considerable momentum. Already the band has unveiled a pair of killer singles in Spider Relations” and “Naut Cool,” and last Friday they hit the trifecta with what may be their best offering yet.

“Stoned in Time” finds MTN ISL doing what they do best; namely, taking inspiration from all things heavy, angular, and abrasive. The lurching menace of the song’s doom-inspired opening strikes with measured ferocity like a serial killer calmly selecting their next victim. It’s angry and aggressive, but also slowly plodding and deliberate, which only makes the jagged bursts of guitar that close the song seem that much more explosive and unhinged. All in all, it’s a near-perfect encapsulation of what makes the group so formidable: a heavy dose of classic, tightly-wound post-hardcore mixed with the dirt and grime of the South.
