This joint right here from Atlanta beatsmith Threepeeoh I’m claiming as my new personal theme music. Like Peter from Family Guy only funkier. If I had to break this track down into its constituent parts and tell you what makes it click for me, I’d be at a loss. It’s a fairly standard old-school boom bap beat coupled with a rolling baseline, some textural noise and airy synths. There’s very little variation in the groove and the layering of sounds isn’t especially mind-blowing. It sounds off-the-cuff like something he compiled one afternoon and decided to post for the hell of it. But I like it because it’s gangster af. I like it because it makes me want to throw on some shades and stroll around Atlanta in Reservoir Dogs-style slow motion. I like it because it’s a veritable neck-snapper with baller attitude. If this accompanied me everywhere I went, life would be infinitely more badass. At least that’s the way it goes in my head. It’s Monday morning, do you know where your theme music is?
