Even in his Burger Records roots, Curtis Harding toyed with '70s R&B hooks but they always ended up taking a back seat to the garage soul which brought him initial success. On his new single “It’s Not Over,” he finally doubles down on moving forward, and the results are as laid-back as they are glorious. His rock and roll edges have been smoothed over even more than they were on last year’s Face Your Fear, and the snappy Four Tops jams have evolved into oozing lava lamp riffs that lounge in the velvety backing vocals. Most importantly, there’s a discotheque vibraphone riff that makes you want to sweat out the summer in swaths of polyester. Gimme more of the new Curtis!
