It’s no secret Wanderwild have built their reputation by developing an irresistible blend of punchy rock and anthemic pop. What has been remarkable, however, are the many ways the band have twisted and stretched that simple formula to create intoxicating new shapes and sounds. From jittery post-punk to combustible guitar jams to sleek and nervy dance grooves, the Athens group have continued to surprise and delight at every turn. Their breezy and soulful new single is no different.

Braced by aqueous new wave rhythms and infectious R&B hooks, “Do the Work” is a winding track that refuses to stand still or tread over its own tracks. Sonically you could draw some parallels to mainstream titans like Coldplay or the 1975, but the level of sophistication makes it more exciting and intriguing. Keeping listeners on their toes is imperative for any good band, and Wanderwild always leave you guessing better than most.

Directed by the band’s own Reagan C. Byrd, and shot by Gabe Cuomo and Emily Dingus, the video features the band as a team of astronauts in training. Washed-out, grainy, and cut in the classic 4:3 aspect ratio, the clip carries a vintage vibe that suits the song’s lively dynamism. It’s an entertaining watch, and a further reminder of Wanderwild’s commitment to musical evolution and, well… fun.

“In reference to the heyday of space exploration, we created a playful, yet nostalgic narrative about the band as a budding team of astronauts,” says vocalist/guitarist Matt Martin. “The video features a mashup of visual styles that reflect the song’s own dynamic structure—a little bit fun, a little bit serious.”
