Building in successive waves, the new single from Telemarket chases the ebbs and flows of new love and the pain of loss. It unfolds in a dreamy haze with frontman Adam Wayton’s spectral vocals drifting through a framework of chiming guitars and clattering drums. Overall, “Hello Hello Girlfriend” is more gauzy and lo-fi that what the band presented on last year’s excellent You deserve a hard day’s work after a long night’s rest. without sacrificing any of its melodic appeal or DIY charm.

Shot over two days by Atlanta filmmakers Jake Hale and Alex Cha, the video follows a downcast alien named Flerb through dark, empty streets and into a bustling fairground. There’s a feeling of loneliness and alienation that reverberates throughout the clip as Flerb shuffles about while onlookers gawk and stare or ignore his presence entirely. Fortunes seem to change, however, when he encounters the Lizard Queen and the pair walk away holding hands. It’s a tenuous connection built entirely in the moment, but it’s enough to offer a measure of hope as the video fades to a close.

“Hello Hello Girlfriend” is the first song to be revealed from the group’s new double single Odds and Ends, which is out today. The record also features a spirited cover of the Ramones’ “She’s the One.” Both tracks were produced by Telemarket’s organ and synth player Will Anderson, alongside Wayton.
