You can file Fleetwood Mac under one those bands that I never really cared for personally, but I’ve always understood the appeal. Smart songwriting, catchy hooks, Stevie Nicks’ singular voice—I get it, I do. But for whatever reason, the group’s music never resonated with me. “Rhiannon,” however, has always been an exception. That slithering, meandering guitar line alone is worth the price of entry, but Nicks’ vocals are positively devastating.

For her part, Atlanta-based singer-songwriter Kristen Englenz has been quietly making a name for herself ever since the release of her debut EP, The Extent of Play, earlier this year. Featuring six tracks of stripped-down, plaintive folk and Americana, the record highlighted Englenz’s honest, honey-coated vocals and included contributions from members of Little Tybee and Book of Colors.

Recently, Englenz teamed up with director Tim Redman to record a live music video for her cover of the aforementioned Fleetwood Mac classic. Shot in much the same vein as Adron’s “Ave Maria” (also helmed by Redman), the video focuses its attention on the intimacy of the performance and the subtle interactions between the players, which in this case includes strong backing from drummer/percussionist Colin Agnew, bassist Robby Handley, and Slow Parade frontman Matthew Pendrick on electric guitar. It’s a fairly straightforward cover, although Englenz does opt for a slower and more restrained approach, which helps accentuate the song’s innate sense of magic and mystery.
