On Wednesday we posted “Glass Skin,” the lush, ethereal new single from CLAVVS, and today we’re ecstatic to bring you the premiere of the accompanying video. Co-directed by Piezo Quartz and CLAVVS, the clip was filmed at Sweetwater Creek State Park and spends most of it time focused on vocalist Amber Renee as she dances, sways, and sings amongst the natural beauty of the rocks and water. For a group that works predominantly in dark atmospheric pop, it initially feels a little hippy-dippy. But then Renee’s face starts to morph and dissolve into ghostly shapes and suddenly there’s an air of surreal enchantment involved. It’s like a peyote spirit walk set to a haunting, ambient soundtrack.
Visually and thematically, “Glass Skin” is on the opposite spectrum of the midnight mysticism that guided their last LP, halfblood, but there’s no denying the duo’s cinematic flair for drama. Since their infancy, CLAVVS has used the allure of fantasy to create spellbinding videos and soundscapes, and this latest effort proves they understand how to dive into the mystical and emerge with something bold and beguiling.
CLAVVS will perform tomorrow night, September 3, for Synthesizer Vol. III at the Mammal Gallery. Supporting them will be 10th Letter, Marble Mansion, and Konda featuring Original Copy. Doors open at 9 p.m. Admission is $5 in advance or $7 DOS.
