In the nearly three years since Mighty started making their presence felt in Atlanta, the young rockers have come a long way, developing steadily from a scrappy solo project into a gritty yet polished trio capable of churning out some gripping, high-intensity tunes. Released early this year, the group’s self-titled debut LP featured 11 tracks of dynamic alt-rock that touched on everything from cathartic punk and grunge to well-textured shoegaze and dream pop. If nothing else, Angelo Fiaretti and company proved themselves to be smart, discerning songwriters interested in balance; a close listen to Mighty revealed a band equally concerned with pushing the envelope as crafting indelible hooks.

One of the more immediate and accessible songs on the LP, “Drip Drop” comes flooding out of your speakers like it’s existed forever. Everything about the song—the moody verses, the tension-inducing build-ups, the driving chorus—is artfully constructed, and it doesn’t take many listens for it to get seared into your subconscious.

Directed by Andrew Averso, the video paints a particular sort of Southern portrait, a kind of hard-drinking rural aesthetic where chasing your dreams means spending all your free time honing your Motocross skills, even as your marriage disintegrates around you. There are parallels, of course, to the life of the artist, and the personal sacrifices, nervous breakdowns, and destructive decisions that often accompany it, but even without the extended metaphor, “Drip Drop” makes for an arresting clip with one hell of a soundtrack.
