It’s T-minus one day until Microwave unveil their new LP Death is a Warm Blanket, and to make sure everyone is good and fired up, the band has shared the video for their crushing new single “Mirrors.” It’s yet another furious blast of punishing post-hardcore from the Atlanta rockers, further suggesting that the forthcoming album will be a far heavier affair than any of its predecessors.

“Mirrors” finds its strength in bruising riffs and air-raid siren leads that help ramp up the tension when set against Nathan Hardy’s melodic vocals. Though the band has grown louder and more aggressive, they haven’t lost the dynamism that have made their past work so compelling. Beyond the song’s thunderous crunch are traces of shoegaze and spacey guitar interludes that help temper the pit inducing onslaught. In many ways, it’s reminiscent of seminal post-hardcore giants Quicksand, a compliment I don’t hand out lightly.

Directed by Max Moore, the video mirrors (yeah, yeah, I know) the song’s queasy anxiety with gauzy footage that’s awash in muted browns. It’s an interesting aesthetic choice, one that helps bring depth to the song’s themes of duality and desire without distracting from it’s exhilarating sonic punch.

Watch/listen above.

Death is a Warm Blanket is out Sept. 13. Pre-orders are available here.
