Since arriving on the scene in early 2019, Lesibu Grand have confidently transformed from a band prone to mild subversion to a more overtly political group. It’s been a fascinating evolution to witness and judging by their steady uptick in streams and views, it’s been a successful one. Most likely that’s because throughout their run vocalist Tyler-Simone Molton and bassist John Renaud have maintained a laser focus on sharp hooks and songs that crackle with fizzy intensity. Case in point is the band’s latest, “Not Sweet Enough,” which crackles and explodes along like a string of M-80s, all the while pressing for female empowerment.

The accompanying video is another feather in the cap for Lesibu Grand, who have made smart and humorous visuals an essential component of their ethos. This time around viewers are transported into an action-figure world where Molton, in the form of a Barbie doll, must fight off the unwanted advances of a small legion of villains and monsters. The combined forces of Randy Orton, Godzilla, Cobra Commander, Skeletor, and others prove to be no match for our resilient heroine, as she dispatches each fiend with gory ease.

“Our video for ‘Not Sweet Enough’ highlights the emotional scars caused by growing up cisgender female in a male-dominated patriarchy,” Molton explains in a statement, “and does so with fury and humor.”
