If we’ve learned anything about Hanzo since he teamed up with Awful Records, it’s that his status as a rising Atlanta star has been well-earned. As a producer, he’s turned out an assortment of enveloping backdrops for the likes of Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Pump, Gunna, and Hoodrich Pablo Juan, but most recently he’s been focusing on his solo work in preparation for his next release in early 2020. His latest single “Complicated” sees him partnering with labelmate SEANTHOMMONEY for a breezy, hook-filled anthem about an exasperating romance that runs hot and cold.
“‘Complicated’ was inspired by a long on-again-off-again relationship,” Hanzo recently told The FADER. “That feeling that you get when you love someone but it isn’t working out how you want can drive you crazy. Sean and I tried to tap into that feeling, being confused, head-in-hands, questioning where things went wrong.”
Directed by Diégo Freitez, the video attempts to match the song’s vivid energy with bright colors and camerawork that feels perpetually in motion. It’s far more cheery than the track’s brooding theme would suggest, but honestly, who can blame them? Both artists are undeniably on the come up, and “Complicated” is only further proof that the hype is real.
