For a band that’s ostensibly in its infant stages and still in flux, Airduster sure know how to come charging out of the gate. The Atlanta trio appeared on my radar just last week when I came across the above video for a pair of tracks off their debut EP. With a bombastic blend of wrecking ball punk, abrasive noise, and scuzzy hard rock, the band was right up my alley. I quickly found myself mashing repeat on their brash opening statement while a disquieting assemblage of ‘80s jazzercise clips, military marches, and violent protests rolled ominously by.

Led by bassist and vocalist (and one-time Immersive Atlanta contributor) Tyler Findlay, the band’s lineup is rounded out by Joal Hohensee on guitar and vocals and Wesley Hohensee on drums. So far the threesome’s online presence has been fairly cryptic with scant activity and a terse bio that reads “Low IQ butt rock.” You could read that as a declaration that Airduster aren’t intent on taking themselves too seriously and just want to pummel audiences with bludgeoning riffs. But in watching the band’s debut video and scanning through their pugilistic lyrics, it’s clear they have something to say and kowtowing the status quo ain’t it. “Spread your cheeks / Check your privilege / Do a dance for some clout” Findlay snarls on the venomous “Puttyhead” while the track’s rumbling bass and skronky guitar burst forth like a jackhammer rupturing a water main.

On the level, part of me wants to scream that this is some real-deal shit and to urge you to pay fucking attention. I’ve also been around long enough to know Airduster may dissolve in the wind before they ever get off the ground. So let me just say this: I have no earthly clue what’s next for this band. All I know is “Puttyhead/Sniff” rips like else little I’ve heard this year.

Watch/listen above.

Airduster will make their live debut on Mon., Nov. 11 at 529 alongside Disable, Satisfiers of Alpha Blue and Coma Teeth. Doors open at 8 p.m. Admission is $6. 21+ to enter.
