Comprised of vocalist Jillian Hervey and producer/instrumentalist Lucas Goodman, aka Astro Raw, New York City duo Lion Babe have been been gaining increasing notoriety for their intoxicating blend of R&B, funk, and soul. Best known perhaps for “Treat Me Like Fire” and “Jump Hi,” the pair of airy, pulsating jams featured on the HBO series Insecure, the group have made their way to Atlanta before, usually in the context of a sprawling festival lineup like Afropunk or Raurfest. Tomorrow, however, Lion Babe will seek out their own spotlight with a headlining performance at the Loft.

Released in March, the duo’s sophomore LP Cosmic Wind certainly seeps well into the mellow spectrum, but there’s plenty of immersive textures and cool ‘70s disco vibes peeking out from all that easy listening. Goodman’s production is expansive throughout and Hervey shows she has the sort of vibrant, searching voice that can weave through that lustrous space without getting lost. Together they’re a dynamic force to be reckoned with, making tomorrow’s show a can’t-miss engagement for fans of alternative R&B and neo-soul.

Lion Babe will perform tomorrow night, June 11, at the Loft alongside Ree de la Vega and Neila. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $20 in advance or $25 at the door. All ages.
