Lunar Vacation recently unveiled a new live session featuring some classic tunes off their 2017 EP Swell and two unreleased tracks, including a searing instrumental. The session spans a wide range of the band’s summery takes on sad songs, demonstrating both a wealth of creativity and a dedicated consistency.

The group set up shop at Toast and Jam in the outskirts of Atlanta to shoot the video. The Buford, GA studio has produced similar sessions for other locals, including King of Summer, Jeremy Ray, and Michael Cera Palin, but the calm jams of Lunar Vacation are the perfect fit for the pastoral room. It’s not hard to see KEXP inspiration in the gentle pans and crisp close-ups, but the decidedly traditional cinematography is the perfect vehicle to transport the clairvoyant call and response of Maggie Geeslin and Grace Reparsky’s guitar work.

The inclusion of the unreleased track “Daytime” is a surprising addition to the session, and it hints at a possible new direction for their upcoming, yet-to-be-titled EP. The track features velvet syncopation that would make Bryan Ferry jealous and exposes yet another layer of talent from the young band.

Lunar Vacation will perform tomorrow, Mar. 6, at the Mammal Gallery alongside Triathalon and Inner Wave. Doors open at 9 p.m. Admission is $10-12.
