Released on Valentine’s Day, Valentine is a two-song EP from Fam, one of Atlanta’s newer voices working in rhythm and blues. Led by the A-side cut “Hoopti” featuring local rappers Turls and Keenon Rush, the release, which also contains the hazy “Cupid’s Interlude,” is characterized by bizarre, bass-heavy sounds that take the genre and warp it into psychedelic overdrive. The result is what can be described as future R&B: bouncy music that sounds more like glitchy, grimy hip-hop.

What Fam is labeling his “bedtime story” is the artist’s first musical offering of 2019, and more releases are reportedly on the way. If these two cuts are any indication, Fam represents an experimental kind of R&B being made in the city, one that should only sharpen and refine itself as time goes on. Listen below.
