Has the change in daylight savings time got you down? Do you miss the long days and warmer temperatures? If you’re in need of a balmy, summery pick-me-up look no further than the new single from Cool Cool Cool. The solo project of Toast and Jam Studio co-founder Dominick Maduri, CCC take an unfussy approach to indie pop and rock, crafting songs that glide along effortlessly. Featuring assistance from Brett and Tyler Sidney of Blurry, “Cheap Wine” goes down easy so to speak, propelled by a steady backbeat and tropical-inflected guitars. But it’s Maduri brings it all together with breezy hooks that touch on burgeoning romance and missed connections.

“In the verses [it’s] about new love and how exciting it can be to spend all your time with that someone,” says Maduri. “Although you to want to spend all your time with that person, sometimes life gets in the way causing your timing to be off. That’s the vibe of the chorus.”

In celebration of the song’s release, Cool Cool Cool have shared the accompanying lyric video. It features Maduri singing outdoors on a red loveseat while drinking box wine. Overall, it’s a simple but effective DIY affair, right down to the working wine box Maduri created to help promote the song.

“I had a blast with the aesthetic for this song,” Maduri explains. “Right off the bat I knew the song would be called ‘Cheap Wine’ and I had an idea to create my own working wine box to take a photo of someone pouring themselves a glass at a party scene for the artwork. Posting the box around was a great way to create buzz for the song. So many people hit me up thinking I was actually selling wine so maybe if the song takes off that could be a possibility lol.”
