It’s been nearly a year since Malevich unveiled Under a Gilded Sun, the Atlanta quartet’s acclaimed third album. The nine-song record features some of the band’s most expansive work, incorporating more ambient and serene passages into their dense labyrinth of blackened grindcore and post-metal. Perhaps no song was more emblematic of this evolution than “Delirium and Confidence.” It’s a dark, looming dirge of a song that relies on brooding tension and atmosphere over punishing riffs.
The accompanying video, directed and edited by Ryan Vera, leans heavily into that haunting atmosphere. Interspersing images of naked intimacy and brute coercion, the clip depicts a man torn between his desire for love and his thirst for dominion. Ultimately it serves to bring the song’s themes of power, dominance, and submission into starker relief—providing, perhaps, more questions than answers.
“The video is an exploration of the violence woven into American life,” the band noted in a press release. “The idyllic image of Americana is a thin veneer over the power and control that undergirds the living in the imperial core. When do we have agency over this violence? Is it possible to use it to build a better, more loving world?”

On the heels of the video’s release, Malevich also announced their plans for a September East Coast tour. The thirteen-date trek kicks off on Sep 13 in Raleigh, North Carolina and will take the band as far north in the U.S. as Biddeford, Maine. From there, the group will cross the border for a pair of shows in Quebec City and Montreal before veering south for the remainder of the run. The tour culminates with a hometown performance at the East Atlanta Strut on Sep 26.
