Not even curator Chad Radford can remember exactly how many Radfests there have been, so it’s uncertain whether we’re headed towards the 7th or 8th iteration of the locals-only event. The fest, which doubles as a birthday celebration for the Creative Loafing music editor, generally focuses on emerging artists and trends, and this year is no different. With hardcore punk stalwarts Nurse and Slugga leading the lineup, it’s clear that Radford wants to tip his hat to a scene that’s been on the rise over the past couple of years. Meanwhile, the inclusion of experimental artists Dux, Alexa Lima, and Caesium Mine ensures that some of Atlanta’s left-field voices are also heard. It’s a fairly disparate bill and a genuine attempt at much-needed cross-pollination, so it will be interesting to see how the audience responds. Donations will be accepted at the door, so don’t be stingy.
