So this is the first Concert Calendar post-election and, I don’t know about you, but I’ll be clinging to music now more than ever as a palliative against fear and dread. That gaping horror and emptiness we’re all feeling needs to be filled with something of substance, and we should seek nothing less than love and communion. Fortunately, the schedule is packed tight with all varieties of inspiration and cathartic release, so do your psyche a huge solid and congregate with some like-minded souls this week.
Normally this would be the part where I highlight some artists and talk up specific shows, but this time I just want to implore you to get out and support artists, any artists. Nothing heals people quite like music. Nothing illuminates our hopes, exposes our faults, and bridges our divides quite like song. In its purest form, music breeds understanding, which helps shape and feed our knowledge. In turn, knowledge creates strength. And with strength comes courage. And if there is something that we’re all going to have to lean on in the coming months and years, it’s our collective courage. So get out and support your scene. Be smart and viligant, but above all feed your fire. Because if the darkness comes we’re going to need all the light we can get.
