I have never been one to put faith in metrics or analytics, at least when it comes to determining the worth of something, but I’m not going to deny that numbers can help tell a story. After all, how else can we measure an artist’s immediate impact if not through digital streams and follower counts, page views and social shares? For instance, if I were to tell you Atlanta rockers StarBenders are having an exceptional, impactful year, what would that mean to you? How could I drive that point home by a means that was quantifiable?

Well, I may start by noting that the group’s latest video, “Paper Beats Rock,” has accumulated over 30,000 YouTube views in less than a week. It’s an impressive feat for a band who only recently released their first full length, Heavy Petting, and as sure a sign as any that StarBenders are making significant waves. Directed by Dominar Films and shot live at Aisle 5, the video ably captures the high energy and feel-good intensity of the band’s live shows with plenty of exuberant crowd shots, slow motion pans, raucous performance footage, and glitter explosions. It doesn’t hurt that the clip is soundtracked by one of the band’s more combustible and catchy singles, proving that StarBenders’ success is based far more on talent than internet statistics.

Heavy Petting is out now via Institution Records.
