A new band has surfaced in the Atlanta music scene that will bring many listeners back to their youthful days when pop punk giants like Green Day, Blink-182, and All Time Low reigned supreme. Calling themselves Say Hello Sunday, the members came together in 2017 after working with each other in previous projects. Comprised of David Watts (vocals, guitar), Ryan Hoffmann (guitar), Heath Hart (bass), and Kacey Johnson (drums), the group has over a decade of experience among its ranks.
For anyone wondering, the band gets its namesake from a crappy job that Watts and Hoffmann used to work on Sundays. The experience was mostly a dreadful one, so when Watts was given the mantle of naming the new project, he decided on Say Hello Sunday as a reminder for the band to stay humble and remember their roots.
For the last two and a half years, the band have been honing their craft to ensure that every aspect of their debut would be done right. The culmination of this work can be heard on The Bright Side, which was released this past August and was produced by All Time Low drummer Rian Dawson. Listening to it, it’s clear the EP was polished and refined over countless hours, reflecting the clear picture of professionalism found within the band. If pop punk is your bag, this foursome has hooks and energy to spare.
To accompany The Bright Side, Say Hello Sunday recently released their video for lead single “Truth Be Told (A Girl Like You).” The clip is a mix of nostalgia and live performance, along with tongue-in-cheek footage of the band suffering the many perils of speed dating. In just over a week, the video has garnered over 7k views, an early signal, perhaps, of what’s to come for the fledgling group.
