Early January is always a whirlwind of activity. And with so many artists trying to get a jump on 2020 by releasing new material, it’s easy for bands to get drowned out or lost in the shuffle. For Sarah and the Safe Word, however, standing out has never really been an issue. If you have any doubts, just check out the group’s new single and video “You’re All Scotch, No Soda,” which finds Sarah Rose and company dishing out more of their contagious chamber emo while digging a sharp heel into the warped delusions of misogyny and male fragility.
Visually, the video plays into a roaring ’20s vibe with onlookers in period dress and hints of gin-fueled excess. It looks like a grand time for everyone involved unless, of course, you’re a dude intent on wrecking the revelry with some old-fashioned sexism and unwanted advances. In which case, watch out for your teeth; Sarah and the Safe Word aren’t afraid to put you in check.
Watch/listen above.
Although details have yet to emerge, you can expect a new LP from the Atlanta sextet sometime in 2020 via Take This to Heart Records.
