Pro tip: Don’t go digging through “My Money (Grows On Trees)” for any buried messages or hidden metaphors. Sometimes you need to let a song live or die on how hard it grooves, and the swaggering ‘70s vibes on this swanky cut is more than enough to carry the day. The solo project of producer and songwriter Michael Bostinto, Rollingchild is positioned here as a fun-first amalgamation of strutting vintage R&B and basement blues, all delivered with a hip-hop kicker.

Given its retro leanings, it’s no surprise the project comes with a heavy assist from producer Randy Michael and InCrowd. The Atlanta collective has spent much of the past few years helping to propel the rise of garage rocker Mattiel, and while Bostinto may not possess her command on vocals, he does know how to lean into a hook. Indeed, if there’s anything that stands out about the track, it’s that its got verve and attitude to spare.

As for the video, when you link up with Video Rahim and crew, you know it’s going to be a spectacle. The Atlanta-based filmmaker has created striking visuals for Biters, Mastodon, PLS PLS, and others, and you can now safely add Rollingchild to the list. Filmed at the Brig at Argosy, the production reads something like a booze-fueled ‘70s lounge party turned modern-day strip club extravaganza. Except that instead of strippers it’s Bostinto getting showered in Benjamins as he rips off a silky guitar solo. Is it a celebration of excess? Probably. But when has that ever stopped rock and roll?
