While it’s been nice to hear the Head mold their songwriting into something dreamier and more atmospheric, sometimes you miss the earnest forward momentum of their early material. With new single “Haunt Me,” however, the Atlanta seek out a more driving and anthemic sound with Jacob Morrell’s chiming guitar and Jack Shaw’s shuffling drums paving the way for Mike Shaw’s undulating bass and charismatic vocals. It’s clear the group has been making a shift towards a moodier, more sophisticated palette, but here they strike a solid balance between rock and roll verve and glistening pop ambiance.

Directed by longtime collaborator Nick Rhodes of Coalesce Films, the video marks one of the group’s most cinematic efforts. Combining visual metaphors with hints of narrative storytelling, the clip alternates between footage that’s gorgeously staged and what soon starts to feel like a surreal daydream. There’s also a twist ending involved, so make sure to stick around until the last note fades.
