It’s been a few months since Shantih Shantih released their debut LP Winter in September, and today they’re back with an enchanting video for one of the grooviest tracks on the record. “Forge” blends the San Francisco Sound of the ’60s with garage-inflected guitar work. Not only is it a perfect mix of scorching solos and peaceful harmonies, the track is reflective of Shantih Shantih’s ability to reimagine ’60s rock within songs that are thoroughly modern yet retain a certain vintage charm.
Though the video was conceptualized and directed by the band, it was shot by Nick Furgiuele (Gringo Star), the husband of drummer Julia Furgiuele. The hazy videography adds to the mystical aura of the song, as the band wanders and cavorts through forest and meadow. This haunted version of flower power is more cosmic than beatnik, yet even at its most clairvoyant, “Forge” is neatly wrapped in a rock and roll package.
The video is being released in preparation for a two-week European tour which will begin and end in Italy. It’s a logical step for the band considering vocalist and guitarist Anna Barratin previously played in Italian garage outfit Vermillion Sands and Italy’s Wild Honey Records released Shantih Shantih’s debut LP.
