The members of art rock trio Mani hail from Atlanta, Macon, and Milledgeville, so when I say the group’s music is kind of all over the place, maybe there’s some geographical influence worming its way into the threesome’s avant aesthetic. Take a gander, for instance, at “Trimurti Shadow Men,” the lead track from the band’s latest LP, icanthearwhattheyresayingbutithinkigetit. Like much of the album, it’s a song awash in both mystical tones and gritty guitars, one that explores the broad intersection between the freewheeling quirks of natural mystery and a distinctly urban emphasis on noisy tension.
Similarly, the video, directed by Nick Hess of Moon86 Productions, refuses to speak in any sort of definitive terms, settling instead for an abstract palette of colors, lines, and tones that sometimes congeal into distinct (albeit somewhat distressed) images before zooming back out into obscurity. It’s an interesting, oftentimes vibrant, means of engaging with the band’s unique soundtrack, one that places the group members at a distance while focusing on the synergy between light, movement, and sound.
Watch/listen above.
Mani will perform tomorrow night, Apr. 27, at the Erec-Ki-Gala: Dance & Installation at the Bakery alongside LONER. Doors open at 7 p.m. Admission is $7. All ages.
