For a group with seemingly boundless energy, self-described “carnival rock” band Big Morgan have taken their sweet time in releasing their debut LP. They dropped the first single, “Rabbit Hole” nearly two years ago, but their new video for instrumental cut “Jack’s Tractor” marks the final teaser before they finally release Superpunch! on Thursday.
Throughout the brief clip, the Athens four-piece and their friends cavort around a bowling alley, buoyed by cascading pop hooks. Previous Big Morgan tracks have been structured around similar earworms, but here the band find an infectious melody and proceed to bleed it dry before resuscitating it as a zombie. The technique gives the track a pointed immediacy, though the group is wise enough to let go before the song reaches the two-minute mark, all but assuring that the listener will hit repeat.
