Self-proclaimed dork rapper and Roswell native Michael Myerz recently dropped a fresh video for “What Happened To The…,” the new single from his latest LP, A Mourning in Deja Vu. Myerz’s style and timbre is similar to fellow Jewish rapper Lil Dicky, whose content is heavy on irony and references to general nerd culture. If you’re looking for bars on everything from Gundam Wing to the Halloween horror movies to hentai to the Japanese manga series Naruto, this is your dude.
The video is a mash-up of clip art graphics, anime and movie screen grabs, and some outlandish camera mugging from Mr. Myerz himself. It’s reminiscent of a Yung Lean video, minus a few dozen hits of LSD. There’s definitely an element of “What the fuck did I just watch?” after the first viewing, but the overall experience is hilarious.
Myerz’s flow and subject matter is definitely an acquired taste, but listeners who are fans of shock rap or stylized comedy rap will probably find something to appreciate. And based on the artist’s extensive discography, we’re sure to see more of the nerd rapper in the future.
