Time heals all wounds, say the folks who cite aphorisms. Yet the passing days alone can’t close the gashes dug out by claws that won’t quit–you’ll need to rub the balm of willpower yourself if you want to see any real recovery.
To be fair, Athens power trio Hunger Anthem certainly sound like they’re in fighting form. Brendan Vaganek, Cameron Kelly, and Margo Summer swagger about the neighborhood in their latest video, bearing the two-minute blitz of “Remedy” like a banner in a victory march. They have every right to celebrate–after all, the new single marks their first return to a studio in four years, and the first record with Summer in the mix. But while the gang have beefed up beyond Vaganek’s early confessions into this Husker Dü-like fury, a tender bruise might still hide under the skin. Our protagonist speaks of seeking a way “to hold all these monsters at bay;” no matter what sort of internal beast he wrestles with, anyone can relate to that yearning for a fix. And anyone who’s scrambled for answers knows that the cuts from those creatures take the longest time to mend.
