Let me just say this: sandwich love is real, y’all. It’s pretty much the perfect food — compact, portable, and completely customizable. If you can’t make a delicious, mouthwatering sammie, that’s on you. But as “Tear Wagon,” the new video from pop experimentalists Hello Ocho proves, even something as innocent as love for a bread-based food item can become corruptible if taken to the extreme.
Created by Atlanta-based Rock and Egg, the clip depicts a newly married couple’s (Gary Eddy and Morgan Lugo) descent into violence and crime when their lust for bread, deli meats, condiments, and sliced cheeses overtakes them. Sure, it’s a bit surreal, but given Hello Ocho’s penchant for stripping away pop and rock conventions and crafting disorienting songs that challenge listener expectations, is it really any surprise their videos would follow suit?
Hello Ocho will perform this Saturday, May 7 at Go Bar in Athens. Supporting them are Richard Gumby, Weatherly, plus two secret bands. Doors open at 9:30 p.m. Admission is $5.
