Atlanta-based CLAVVS (pronounced “Claws”), are an alt-pop duo that combine atmospheric soundscapes with powerful vocals. The man responsible for providing the group’s lush ambiance is producer Graham Marsh, a four-time Grammy winner who’s extensive resume includes work for the likes of heavy-hitters Cee Lo Green, Bruno Mars, TI, Nas, Common and Kid Cudi. One summer night in 2013, Marsh met singer Amber Renee at a house party and the two bonded over their love of hip-hop and Radiohead. Thus, CLAVVS was born.
Following the release of their debut album, Feel It All, in April, CLAVVS recently unveiled the video for “Sit You Down,” the first single from their upcoming EP, halfblood. Filmed in and around Brownwood Park in East Atlanta, the video is it’s own animal — a smoky daydream filled with menacing boomboxes, metal claws and shopping carts. Renee serenades the viewer as Marsh perches at the base of a makeshift wooden throne (complete with broken chairs, pallets and police caution tape), waiting to crown the new queen. The last image you see is the duo atop the wooden structure before a bright cloud of orange smoke arrives to wake you up.
The halfblood EP will be revealed episodically, one song at a time, leading up to it’s release in Spring 2016, which means we’ll be hearing much more from CLAVVS throughout the next few months.
CLAVVS will perform on Thursday, December 3 at Smith’s Olde Bar. Supporting them will be phil.harmoniq and Alissa Feudo. Doors open at 8 p.m. Admission is $8 in advance or $12 day of show.
