New decade. Out with the old. If you’ve been following TRIPLE THREAT for the past several years, you’ll know the former intro lost whatever luster is had some time ago. But coming up with something new every week is a significant commitment, not to mention that it defeats the purpose of the column; the focus should be on the songs. But we did want to take the opportunity to make sure new readers understand what this particular feature is about in order to encourage them to keep coming back. After all, TT was created to provide a quick entry point into the local music scene for newcomers or for those who might be too busy to keep up with all the day-to-day activity that goes on. It’s simply a highlight of some of the best music we heard over the past week. So while this intro might change more often moving forward, the format, as always, will remain the same: three songs, some words, and we out. Enjoy.
Lemon Crush – “Believe Yourself”
From the EP, Consumers
What better way to introduce Lemon Crush to Atlanta than through a raging torrent of ecstatic punk? Despite the classic lo-fi sound, it’s impossible to reduce “Believe Yourself” to the angsty refrains of ’80s hardcore. Although some of the other tracks on their debut EP Consumers fit that mold more easily, the fiery cut remains instead a blunt instrument of inspiration. The band, fronted by the relentlessly positive Ryan Fetter, incites the listener to throw off suffocating layers of shame and repression and face the world (or at least ourselves) with confidence. The clattering drums and droning guitar benefit from ever-prolific Rob Sarabia’s production, and the resulting formula ticks all the boxes of a good underground record. – Russell Rockwell
Lemon Crush will perform tonight at Murmur alongside Mercy (Release Show), Policy, and TNT. Doors open at 8 p.m. Admission is $5. All ages.

Thayer Sarrano – “First Light”
From the standalone single
Written several winters ago, the new single from Thayer Sarrano is a collaboration with producers Marlon Patton and Richard Salino, two old friends from Georgia, who are currently working out of New York. Like much of Sarrano’s work “First Light” is a moody vignette, blending light and shadow into a haunting and intimate soundscape. Although the song’s pulsing groove provides a sense of airy propulsion, it’s not enough to counter the aura of melancholy that surrounds the track like a hovering storm. While Sarrano’s music has always maintained an elemental quality, her voice, lonesome and beautiful, remains purely ethereal. It’s the convergence of these two qualities that makes her songwriting so transportive; “First Light” is just the latest example of this enduring mysticism. – Guillermo Castro

Fam – “Honey”
From the standalone single
Emerging out of Atlanta is a new singer-songwriter who’s as mysterious as he is gifted. Crooning in hushed tones born out of authentic emotion, Fam brings an old-school R&B lyricism to mind while working within production that feels futuristic and distant all at once. The way the vocals bend around the track’s warm, gauzy ambiance is captivating, creating a sense of space and depth that make you want to close your eyes and float into the ether. Overall, it’s a mesmerizing dive into spectral R&B from a refreshing new voice. – Mus Abubaker
