On their debut EP, The Way Back Down, newcomers Transistor-on imbue their post-rock-influenced pop with heavy nostalgia and restless optimism. The first track, “Solar Flare,” is particularly warm and somber, while “Empty Planet” is more minimalistic, plodding along on a delicate riff before winding down from a nice crescendo.
The last two tracks, “Calling Out” and “Exit,” are nearly anthemic in sound and presentation. The former is particularly catchy. I could easily see myself shouting along to it at a show.
The band, which consists of Atlanta duo Joey Piersante and Chris Armistead, clearly put much thought into the track order—the transitions from song to song feel deliberate and intuitive. This is especially true of the EP’s closer, “Exit,” its positively euphoric vibe permeating and leaving the listener blithe and hopeful.
