Back in May, we had the opportunity to premiere “Swann Song,” the stirring lead track from Tedo Stone’s upcoming fourth full length, Same Old Kid. It was yet another hooky blast of nostalgia-laden rock and roll from the Athens songwriter, an emotionally-charged love letter to his wife wrapped in earnest vocals and big guitars. Clocking in at under three minutes, the song served its purpose well, offering a welcoming entrance into Stone’s latest LP.

Today, we’re excited to bring you the bookend to that track in the form of the album’s closing cut. Titled “Town After Town,” the song is a rousing yet wistful stomper that chronicles the anxieties of life on the road. For a family man like Stone, the feeling of isolation can be especially taxing, and here he finds himself edging closer to the breaking point. “I hope this safety line will hold,” he sings on the anthemic chorus, the song’s ramshackle energy acting as a counter to his mounting desperation. It’s a delicate balance to maintain, but Stone once again shows why he’s one of the Classic City’s most intuitive songwriters.

Written with help from Clay Houle of Charleston-based rockers the Artisanals, the track has been long in the making but was almost lost when it came time to put together the new album. Fortunately, consistent prodding from Stone’s bandmates ensured “Town After Town” would see the light of day.

“This is one of the older songs we put on this album,” Stone explains. “I wrote and demo’d this with my buddy Clay Houle of the Artisanals when he was still in our band and then I kind of forgot about it. When Drew Beskin and I were writing songs for Same Old Kid he kept begging I give that song a chance. Once we got the band on it everyone really fell in love with it. It’s a rocker but a perfect way to end our album. I’m glad we finally put it on a record.”

Same Old Kid will be released by Laser Brains on July 10.
