The new Gabbie Rotts single “Toxoplasmosis” — a tongue-in-cheek nod to the condition that causes crazy cat lady syndrome — is a spunky Bikini-Kill-meets-Waxahatchee banger with biting lyrics referencing Rotts’ cats. The track opens with Rotts whispering through blown-out distortion “I have a new preoccupation / Constantly requesting validation,” as she palm mutes angular power chords. The mix fills out with raw punk energy as her strong vocals are pushed forward by drummer Jared Pepper. What follows is a sincere love song about the important place pets hold in our lives with some great one-liners and seriously rocking guitars to boot.
The video, which we’re excited to premiere today, is as meme-able as the song is catchy. Starting with a laugh track, Rotts hams for the camera with plenty of irreverent faces and ivy-covered hijinks. It’s pure fun, and yet another reason why Gabbie Rotts needs to be on your radar stat.
Watch/listen above.
“Toxoplasmosis” is off Gabbie Rotts’ upcoming third LP, Requesting Validation, which releases Oct. 16.
