Atlanta duo Floral Print are once again headed out on tour, and to help build some momentum they’re allowing us the pleasure of premiering their latest single, “Kevin.” It’s another adventurous cut from the group full of dynamic shifts and left-field turns that leave you guessing. For the newly initiated, all that seeking and full spectrum chasing can seem exhausting, but fortunately guitarist/vocalist Nathan Springer and drummer Paul DeMerritt understand the importance of leaving behind a breadcrumb trail of hooks to lead the listener along.
If nothing else, “Kevin” showcases the full gamut of Floral Print’s considerable talent. There’s the spiky off-kilter guitars, the hard-swinging backbeat, the weird interludes, the sly tips of the hat to math rock and slowcore. The track does everything to reinforce the notion that this is a cerebral indie rock band straining their quirks through a punk filter, and that’s perfectly okay by me. For all its restless shape-shifting, there’s a taut energy that flows throughout and you can hear portions of this song exploding live. According to Springer, the band will return to the studio after their tour, and have plans to release a full length in the fall. If this is any sort of prelude, fans could be in for one hell of a glorious ride.
Give a listen to “Kevin” below and then check out their list of spring tour dates, including an April 23rd stop at Mammal Gallery, after the jump.
