When we last spoke with George Huntington, aka George, he outlined for us an ambitious plan for 2020. There was talk of new releases, of course, along with his intention to begin booking his first live shows. This month, Huntington plans to start making good on those promises with the release of a new cassette. The split release will feature his 2019 EP Write As Rain, as well as three new tracks that fall under the title The Lucky Three. Tracked about a year ago, this latest EP sees the multi-instrumentalist working alongside fellow locals Jack Blauvelt (Neighbor Lady, Semicircle) and Trent Johnson. Today, we’re excited to share with you the fruits of that collaboration in the form of the cassette’s intoxicating first single, “Chemical Warfare.”
Landing somewhere between soulful indie-pop and blissed-out psych-folk, “Chemical Warfare” takes the immersive atmospheres George conjured on Write As Rain and pairs them with meditative hooks about our collective malaise and creeping insecurity. The hazy melancholy remains, but there’s light peeking in from around the corner. So while, indeed, “we’re all just ticking time bombs,” there’s some relief in knowing that our sense of unease is chemically dependent on certain stimuli—stimuli that are subject to change. That’s heady stuff for what often feels like a smorgasbord of swooning textures and tones, but George continues to prove that darkness and beauty are sometimes one and the same.

Pre-orders for the George’s new cassette will start tomorrow via Marching Banana Records.
