It’s been well over four years since Canopy released their bone-jarring 2015 EP, and if you’re wondering if all that intermittent time has dulled the monolithic power of their stoner-doom assault, new single “No Cure” should set those fears at ease. The group has always been most effective when setting their cavernous riffs in an inky stew of blackened atmosphere and here the nearly ten-minute running time gives the band plenty of time and space to allow their sculpted riffs to congeal into a lumbering groove before eventually dissolving in a psychedelic post-rock tempest. Dense but never bloated, the track makes for an immersive auditory experience, one that blends punishing riffs and thunderous volume with its own kind of compositional grandeur.
Give it a listen below.
“No Cure” is the first single from Canopy’s forthcoming LP Humanity Loss, out Jan. 31. Pre-orders are available here.
